First Drafts

For me, I start with a basic concept.

In my book, An Uncertain Grave, the concept was simple and very broad: the conflicted relationship that can exist between local people in an area of heavy tourism and the tourists. One the one hand, the locals want the tourists to come – after all, that’s how many of them make their living. On the other hand, tourists can mean traffic, crowds, and, at times, a lack of knowledge or understanding of local values or customs.
